A fun, hands-on introduction to sewing designed to help young makers learn basic sewing skills while creating a finished project they can be proud of.
Skills: Getting to know your way around a sewing machine, threading, straight stitching, backstitching, seam allowance, and basic machine safety.
Students will learn the basics of operating a sewing machine and practice controlling their stitching before creating their first project—a pot holder.
The pot holder will offer both quilted or the opportunity to piece blocks together, allowing students to focus on learning how to sew, finish the edges, and add their own creative touches.
Take-home project: One finished quilted pot holder.
Session includes:
Sewing machine for the session
All fabric/materials
Cutting and sewing supplies
Hands-on instruction
Small-group supervision
Completed project
Foundational sewing skills
Snacks/Lunch
Ages 8 and up: This camp is designed for children 8 years of age and older with an interest in learning to sew.
Parent/Guardian Liability Waiver: A parent or legal guardian must complete the required liability waiver and participation agreement prior to the child participating in camp.
Sewing Machine Experience: No prior sewing experience is necessary. Sewing machines and all project materials are provided.
Students should be able to follow basic instructions and safely operate a sewing machine with instructor guidance.
